Topic-Free Mega Thread - v 1.11.2020

Sorry, after reviewing again with the content review team, I have to reiterate their earlier information- we are choosing not to sell this game on Steam. Products that try to change the Steam API, Steam Overlay, DLLs, etc, aren’t something we’re willing or able to ship and our decision on this product is final.

Nah, from the sounds of it I doubt it has anything to do with the DLL files themselves. It’s the fact that Special K’s Steam enhancements modified or manipulated the Steam API in a way that Valve does not approve of that is the issue.

Like, based on that quote of their, I imagine they would’ve found issues with a simple Steam API callback throttling override – regardless of whether it ended up solving performance problem in some games or not.

Yeah…?

■■■■ Valve, I’m going to a more professional forum / store.

Did they suddenly extend the ban of your account, or something?

Looks like it. Killah Instinct was probably ranting on how 1 year won’t teach me to stop being a malware writing pirate.

Is there a possibility that the extension is because you submitted a request about removing the account entirely…? It wouldn’t be the first time such an action was made to essentially “delete” an account without actually deleting it (due to backend limitations preventing a full removal).

Like, that’s honestly the most likely reason as I can see it.

That would suck, the whole reason I wanted my account deleted was to get rid of all the messages coming from people I cannot help. This may come a surprise to moderators, but there are people out there in the world who fell awful when they have the opportunity to help someone but cannot due to some fascist moderators.

That reminds me, the Steam controller works with Xbox One, just not with games  SONY’s late to the party.

lol, Discourse has a Windows 10 app… no idea why this is a thing that needed to exist, but … it does.

Not bored enough to take it apart and see what’s under the hood, but my guess would be CEF. It’s really just a browser with no address bar. Kinda neat though, nevertheless.

Sounds like the iOS app as well.

I guess that’s the benefit of developing a modern responsive web application nowadays – the website is itself the best “app” possible for the forum.

SKIF is finally on (a) GitLab

http://gitlab.special-k.info/Kaldaien/skif

It’s roughly $20 a month on all the popular hosting platforms for a machine powerful enough to run GitLab. A private GitLab instance is a million times faster than gitlab.com, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. For only $5 a month, I could theoretically run an SSH tunnel from a dedicated IP into my house and bypass port blocking done by my ISP. Save $15

Would you guys mind making accounts on gitlab.special-k.info ?

I want to try and start using the issue tracker. I expect the normal flow will be that less experienced users post support requests in these forums, if they can be resolved, that’s great. Otherwise, they should be elevated to an issue on my private GitLab server.

(e.g.)

Oh, so you ended up getting a VPS to host the GitLab instance after all? Also, I’ve signed up.

On another note, I found this hilarious and a perfect example of tech support:

And got this message from Discourse just now…

Let others join the conversation
This topic is clearly important to you – you’ve posted more than 21% of the replies here.

It could be even better if you gave other people space to share their points of view, too. Can you invite them over?

:expressionless:

LOL

Funny thing behind these forums… they’re partially created by the guy responsible for Stack Overflow. So it keeps track of moderation and usage statistics and awards badges for doing some mundane things. When I learned this, I had to have Discourse as my forum  Lots of good times spent on Stack Overflow. If I didn’t have this project, I’d probably be there answering graphics programming and C++ questions all day and all night for fun

I give up. The HDR monitor market is disappointing even when you try to push your budget

I have a buyer for my current monitor (LG 27UK650), but i can’t find anything to replace it with that isn’t a downgrade in some way. My budget is around £700 (after selling) which still isn’t enough for anything good, i think i just have to wait longer for the options to improve, unless someone knows a good monitor i haven’t heard of.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-CG32UQ-Console-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B07YN5DGFF/ This seemed like the best option, but it’s not an IPS (which my current monitor is) plus the actual peak brightness when you check the specs barely seems to improve over my current monitor. Maybe i’m missing something? Many consumers seem to claim it’s got “good” HDR.

I might consider giving you my old monitor (PG27UQ), but … it would die a horrible death in international shipping :-\ Not a great way for such a spectacular monitor to die.

I don’t even use computer monitors anymore  I’ve got an LG OLED in every room of the house, and they serve as TV and computer monitor. It’s a damn shame LG hasn’t started the miniaturization process yet.

If you’re not using it anymore, i’m happy to pay for shipping even if it fails to get here in perfect condition. There’s no reason it should be damaged though, with enough bubble wrap

I’ll think about it… I definitely haven’t used it in ~2 years since getting the OLEDs. But remarkably its value is still at exactly where it was when I bought it. That’s unheard of for a piece of electronics this old.

Looks like Reddit’s at it again :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you think eventually they’ll learn the only reason I’m an asshole to them is because they’re an asshole to me? Treat people the way you want to be treated…
