Seems strange that they wouldn’t just use the XBox authentication app system and keep the file delivery via Steam at least to the extent the core data and install media is possible before any other assets.

Wonder if it’s down to server side load and delivery issues or at worst the UWP back end and content delivery which basically amounts to delete and re-attempt and hope the [beep] data doesn’t break in some way.
(Newer games having this delivery data in addition to the game data that can also corrupt.)

Hopefully they also fixed issues with using separate non-OS drivers for downloads and other issues but the apps lack a lot of options even through stuff like policies or registry editing and the folder system is part encryption part sandbox environment even if the structure can now be Win32 based too.

Logging perhaps if that’s even done at all otherwise one just has to terminate the process and attempt it in a hour or so maybe flush the DNS or whatever to clear connections so it doesn’t do any background stuff it’s kinda difficult to work with the Windows Store structure although thankfully I’ve only had one problem where a patch was more like downloading the entire thing all over but otherwise avoided file corruption and download problems though these are still a thing and I have no idea on where some of these problems even begin even after multiple OS updates and app updates.
(Back end then and server side issues potentially.)

EDIT: Even if the game is a bit like a MMO with content updates and the delivery system at least a majority of the core data could have been part of the Steam download alleviating additional download issues and possible server queues and connectivity problems as I see it.
(Well not really a MMO but a lot of content that can change and be updated significantly plus the dynamic content downloading and streaming although I suppose that’s more like additional downloads on top of this initial data.)

Bah it could have been handled better simply put, Gears of War 5 and some other recent Win10 Store titles (Halo Collection I guess?) did after all.

So I just bought these for new headphones type setup.

These are my current Headphones but I seem to need a mic too.

Any thoughts? I looked at all the more expensive ones and noticed some things that showed those major ones have some serious audio quality issues. For stuff like wireless and such. I am more of a Wired type person.

I’m amazed at how many people are buying and playing through steam despite it being free on gamepass. Almost 62k concurrent users on steam today.

yeah I bought first month game pass for 0.5USD lol

So it seems my GPU is crapping out on me. Its been flaky since the day I spilt water on my machine. Now one of the display ports doesn’t work properly and doesn’t power up PC either. So I ended up getting new one. I had to switch over to different PCI slot too. Might have made the one it was in too loose.

Funny story though. RX 5700 XT reference cards are now discontinued. Go figure so I got this beauty since it is in my price range I can afford.

@Kaldaien
I think you will appreciate my purchase. It’s my first Strix Card so yeah.

That’s an Asus careful with those but as long as it’s a relatively recent make it should be fine.
Fitting of some of the cooling components and thermal pads can be off so if you notice the tjunction sensor or the junction temp hitting 100+ that’s a good indication of it.

EDIT: Well to be fair almost every make has a weird model or had some initial problems though some got fixed either by a different SKU entirely and a replacement including replacing existing shipped products or by just updating the existing one though current stock is now mixed between the older and newer makes.

Even Sapphire which is otherwise a recommended AMD GPU vendor made a second 5700 Pulse denoted by “BE” which initially looks like it’s the Black Edition but it’s a downgrade and it’s also a worse binned GPU in it using higher power draw at a reduced clock speed target.

Heh, I used to get the FTW Editions since those were made by EVGA but they don’t make those for AMD. Should be okay though. Looks like a beast of a card due to its maximum Clocks it can reach. I will be tweaking fan curve like I always do to any card. Plus I tend to be stingy about temps going too high. So I don’t mind fans going full blast just to ensure card stays colder.

If there’s no problems with the cooler any of the triple fan designs are excellent as such, target clock speeds and the power draw can build up a bit of heat but the tri-fan models dissipate it well enough to where it’s less of a problem.

It’s still a AMD Navi GPU though so it follows the same bios and reference settings in general and things like downvolting can sheer off a chunk of power draw and temperature for a 1 - 2% performance difference which to me is one of those worrying issues AMD keeps doing since around the 290 cards if not before but the card is rated and does work just fine stock too so it’s not like it’s required just a symptom of AMD chasing this last bit of performance to a bit of a extreme.

EDIT: Oh and the driver situation has improved too, I still would like to see more done but it has improved at least even if it took a bit of time initially for some of the more prevalent issues to be almost entirely resolved.
(I expect some of the remaining reports are actually down to hardware or overall OS stability more than the drivers but maybe not 100% though it’s gotten a lot better.)

Oh I think this card has a changed PCB board by the looks of it. It reaches way higher than my reference card. The boost on Reference is pretty low actually but on this card its max is around 2035Mhz

Edit:
I can’t seem to find the length of the reference card. Since they discontinued it. Hopefully this card fits in my tower.

Yeah it’s a pretty big change to reference although because AMD went ultimate extreme over engineering on some bits almost all third party PCB’s balance a few trade-offs and improvements compared to reference. :stuck_out_tongue:

Clock speeds I think try to hit about 2100 but the system is designed to be clever in how much it does boost so 2000 - 2050 is usually where it lands depending on temps, power draw, voltage and GPU scaling itself which works best around 98 - 99% further below that it starts clocking down pretty rapidly.

EDIT: Most any 5700 XT and the bios modded 5700’s (Less of a bios throttle on speeds there.) can hit around 2 Ghz but the cooler makes a significant difference to how hot the GPU runs although since the maximum is 110 for junction and somewhere around 95 surface the card is pretty tough against heat before that becomes a factor for throttling down and cooling the GPU down a bit.

Yup that seems to happen very quickly with reference card. Hopefully the Strix can stay much colder for me for longer periods of time.

270 mm That is size of reference card in length. The Strix is about 305MM. Hopefully its not too big lol.

Edit:
Good news is about my PC being fixed after that water spilt it now can do two 8pins with ease now. The current card is one 6pin and one 8pin. But both cords have 8 pin on them.

Length and fitting is always a possible problem, weight is also something but most any object can work as a bracket plus there’s specific tools for GPU sag and avoiding wear & tear from heavier cards too.

EDIT: Nothing fancy is usually required though some even use LEGO but then LEGO can be utilized for almost anything it seems so that’s perhaps not too surprising.

EDIT: It seems everything has LED these days after a quick check.

Well in my case its not full size but midsize tower and very old. So it already has some issues with current card. Not too much though. I just turn it to its side and put it in. Hopefully I can do the same with Strix card.

Edit:
Eh not a fan of RGB. wonder if I need that installed.

Edit2:
Hmm what’s this?
“QSG, ROG Velcro Hook & Loop”

See this is what happened to Reference Cards.

So I just bought COD Modern Warfare game. The reboot one. And damn it looks amazing on my HDR monitor. Though I am having a concerning glitch / issue. In cutscenes the faces are showing that graphical green sparkles type glitch. Like flickering all over and have no idea what could be causing it. I am most likely getting my new GPU today which is astonishing speed to do one day shipping and have yet to see that happen in COVID crises but its coming today lol. Which is insane and I am hoping it fits in my Tower and fixes that green snow corruption.

My gut tells me that is sign my GPU is going out soon so good to replace. Hasn’t been same since water spilt thru my tower top.

The game is prone to errors and you might also consider deleting the games shader cache after swapping the card out and installing new drivers and such just to ensure the new cache is completely clean.

Also a good stability tester far as I’m hearing but it’s prone to game specific issues on both AMD and NVIDIA hardware plus it’s COD and their engine so it has per-level shaders and what not so what glitches on one map might work completely fine on another map which is why you see the NVIDIA reps often asking about the actual level when troubleshooting discussions pop up.

Once my new card comes in I will definitely be doing that. Fresh install of the drivers. and how do you reset game’s shader cache? I think I saw an option in main menu that does that actually. On side note based on this review.

Just regular RX 5700 XT can manage 53 Avg fps at 4K with maxed settings. Pretty damn impressive. Will not lie. I am loving the HDR implementation in this game. Holy crap by far the best game so far in terms of HDR done right out of the gate.

In this review the card I am getting has slightly higher fps at 1440p but doesn’t show stats for 4K

I am getting OC edition of that STrix card.

So my GPU came in and got to love how amazon put it on my doorstep.

So yeah didn’t fit in PC Tower so I had to do some custom metal work. I basically cut out the hdd bays on bottom part with some heavy duty shears you use to cut branches down. Cut up my hands pretty good and moved hdd’s up at top. But I got it to fit.

Well it worked but that must have been a pretty tough fit and the case needing to be cut is pretty rough work but it appears to have worked but not without some trouble and a lot of effort.

At least the shift over to M.2 and SSD tech means less need for the HDD’s but a single larger storage disk can still be handy although everything cost and even HDD’s can be a bit pricier after a few TB’s of storage.
(Reliability and such too as the amount of platters increase and then density and tolerance and even spacing between these and more.)

Hopefully the card works out alright, GPU shift so the OS probably re-did the drivers or you might want to clean out the existing ones and use 20.5.1, 20.7.2 or the latest 20.8.2 set whichever is preferred.
(I’d recommend the latest available if it works well of course.)

It’s a good GPU in terms of hardware, good upgrade from Polaris and if price isn’t too problematic it’s still a step up from Vega although I am not entirely pleased by the driver situation but at least it has improved.

EDIT: Well the SSD “shift” has been going since like 2012 - 2013 at this point although the M.2 / U.2 NVME standard and versions is a bit more recent, good that it’s getting there but I suspect it will always be a trade-off between price and storage capacity against reliability though triple or even quad layer should do well for regular usage while being less of a price premium.

Bit offset by the move to PCI Express 4.0 controllers and higher - maximum - speeds but for now most any SSD is a big step up from a HDD and then it’s a bit so-so outside of benchmarks and ideal testing conditions far as sustained speeds and all that goes. For now.

GPU wise long as the cost isn’t too high even with NVIDIA and AMD lining up for their new GPU releases I think it can be a good upgrade plus the new series will have it’s launch issues and driver compatibility for a while. (Make it months this time AMD not a year plus. ~ Yeah still not entirely over that I suppose ha ha.)

Not too much else I can say, good improvements over GCN but RDNA’s just starting and it’ll be fun to see what more is to come.
(Plus what NVIDIA has and what’s really going to be the figures for the 3000 series both price and performance.)

EDIT: Well HDD’s for consumers took a fair bit of time too from the 80’s, 90’s and into the 00’s
Still going with various tech improvements hitting 10+ TB’s or more for when a data failure is going to really be a problem.

Well sorta, backup solutions and cloud storage is getting well developed too so anything more important and sensitive can be stored securely even if the Steam library and high-class media of certain sorts could need to be re-done.
(At least cloud saving is becoming more reliable and more of a standard so progress loss is less likely. ~ )

@JonasBeckman
Thing is I replaced my Reference RX 5700 XT one. So it seems it definitely redid some of the settings and such in game. Though I am still getting that damn face glitch of green dots going all over the face in cinematic scenes. Will say that the card now idles much lower at 35C instead of like 42C which it was doing before.

I also am sporting a i7 4790K CPU so its not like I have a new Mobo for SSDs and PCI 4.0 bus speeds lol. Still decent improvement to say the least.

It only cost me 449 USD when reference card cost like 400. So its definitely decent priced hardware for being the highest Clocked one. Especially for Strix Card.

Also I did reinstall latest drivers from AMD as well.

Pretty nice upgrade, Death. I’m waiting for the Big Navi card myself, and an all-new advanced architecture makes me all giggly thinking of all the pre-release beta drivers I will use with it. Exciting times. Looking at a way to get it without passing my Radeon VII on though… it’s a special little GPU for me
