Topic-Free Mega Thread - v 1.11.2020

That sound means the game crashed and Special K caught the crash and logged it in logs/crash/<timestamp>/*.log

That sounds exactly what happens…

I wonder, do i have to have something else aside from the files on the games directory folder? like having no vsync or the game in fullscreen? or something under properties on the .exe files?

Do you have any third-party software like ReShade?

That crash is caused by an unsafe optimization that a lot of third-party software does. ReShade (was) one such piece of software with the unsafe optimization. I patched it officially many years ago, but there’s still a ton of software out there that will crash on FreeLibraryAndExitThread

Aside from afterburner and AVG nothing major really, didnt add anything extra on the main folder

Yeah, afterburner… I assume along-side it, you also have RivaTuner Statistics Server?

It’s been reported a number of times now that RTSS does not get along well with SK in this game. If it is the cause, then this is yet another thing that needs fixing in RTSS.

tried with Afterburner closed but it is still crashing, do i gotta uninstall it completely for it to work?

I’m getting the same issue as you Rodss. I’ve turned everything off - killed processes even. I must have something running that’s interfering, but I can’t track down what it is.

Yeah not even unistalling Afterburner made it to work, imma start verifying the files once again.

yeah that also didn’t quite do it, its odd i wonder what can be intervening the limiter from launching the game, without the extra files the game starts just fine.

About that black crush… I personally had read the memo, put gamma <1.0 (as you wrote in the post, closer to 0.425 for Unity… black crush was still there… like all of the detail was gone. With the new tickbox it works as intended, I’m no programmer (I am a beta tester and a helpdesk trainer for IBM) so I don’t know how it’s different… but it actually is

@Koldanar + @Rodss:

Please use this version, it is compatible with RTSS and probably other software like it.

SK_ACV.7z (7.5 MB)

Thank you for the try! Still, no luck though.

Did you buy from the Epic game store?

Oh… turn the uPlay overlay off. That piece of junk is not helping things

That is weird I have Uplay Thing on but no crashes yet. Do realize guys that RTSS has its own install process. You need to either turn off the service which you can do by going into settings of afterburner and using hotkey to turn off RTSS or uninstall RTSS entirely.

I missed that one! But still, no luck. Thank you for trying - I’ll be fine as is, just frustrated such a simple drop-in isn’t working for me

Read what I typed. There is setting in RTSS alone that you can use hotkey to turn off RTSS entirely. If its not off entirley it will run in background and cause your crashes.

Edit:
Do both of you guys have Epic Game version?

Edit:
Using any Nvidia services like Ansel or Shadowplay? Those might be culprit too.

C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\NvCameraAllowlisting64.dll’
That might be issue. Need to turn off Ansel. Try that.

Edit:
Try doing this:
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Nvidia#Ansel

I Thanks - I tried RTSS on (as Kaldaien said it should support it now), disabled Uplay and Uplay in-game notifications, turned off Ansel (never used that - thanks NVidia!) and still no luck.

dxgi.log (19.7 KB)

Edit : also turned RTSS and Afterburner off completely too

Might be Shadowplay then:
C:\Windows\system32\nvspcap64.dll <— I think that is Shadow play. Try disabling Nvidia’s OVerlay and shadowplay.

Edit: if its not Shadowplay then it might be something to do with Epic Game’s Launcher or something.
