Your school had a gifted program?

Interestingly, the way I’ve helped with SK’s graphic design, I also did the same stuff for my high school. Everyone was taught Photoshop and editing software here but I was the only one wrapping my mind around it, had to teach even the teachers how to use the stuff.

I also did uhh, weird short films back in high school. VFX and everything.

I thought all school districts did? It’s not an efficient way of teaching students who are significantly more intelligent than their peers by putting them in the same class where they will become bored and probably drop out of school.

That’s not an attempt to brag or anything, just the nature of reality. Highly intelligent children who cannot get any academic challenge in school are done a terrible disservice by society if they are not catered to. They really do tend to drop out of school and not apply themselves, so all good education systems should be prepared to handle said students.

We had sets, but we also had close to 200 people per age group. We’d have I think 8 sets per main subject? The set number your assigned to would basically be your rank. Our closest thing to a genius program was basically being put in set 1 for every subject (Maths, English, Science).

AMD 20.8.3 is out.

EDIT: The VK extensions might come in handy for DXVK.
The known issues are still well known. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, yeah… that’s something different. I guess that would be like taking all AP (Advanced Placement) courses.

The gifted program here, was more about offering the most challenging curriculum a student could handle (might mean 2 or 3 grade levels above where they should be at, or in some cases actually enrolling in college courses), while also offering alternative courses of study.

My favorite classes were not even traditional classes, we learned Latin for one semester, studied philosophy, … stuff that you wouldn’t expect to see in High School. Really did prepare me for college, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude thanks I would say to the way my High School experience was structured and discipline I learned.

It was hard to take sets seriously though. I was always top set in Maths, but the teacher really hated me and i was pushed down to the second set before exams. Got the top exam results, current school year is soon finished and everyone’s going to be re-assigned to their new sets depending on their grades. I was put in i think set 5, despite top grade. I was rushing through everything in this class too quickly though, and was pushed up to set 3 a few days later. I was in set 3 for a loong time though, even though i was helping basically everyone in the class because i knew all the answers.

I kind of miss maths though. Being a partially deaf person who could rarely hear teachers in my classes, maths was just all about logic. I didn’t have to hear them. I even did a couple of calculator exams without a calculator, and it was fun. I’m probably terrible at maths now though, haven’t had much reason to bother with calculations in a long time.

Fun fact, I have a Master’s Degree in Computer Graphics and … I never use math either

I mean, technically I do, but matrix transformation are about the most sophisticated math I do in a month :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe I should start Ray Tracing, I’m sure that’d use some more sophisticated math that I have forgotten, hahah.

I can’t say i ever truly cared for exams, which was probably why i was good at them without having to revise. They always throw that whole “this is how you guarantee a successful life” spiel. I knew it wasn’t true, at least not in the field i wanted to go into.

It still fascinates me that even some of the smartest students will be deluded into thinking you get a successful life through successful grades. Simple maths to them. There’s actually so many more factors to consider, so much more to working towards a career. Of course, sometimes grades help, just not all the time and you’re taught you’re a failure who will be stuck at Mcdonalds if you never manage a decent grade. It’s also not all down to just having good grades. I’ve known lots of university students who can’t even get a job due to lack of experience, and being overqualified for any experience.

I haven’t had a use for my grades, not once. I was actually supposed to make my first serious short film, and i want to make films for a living, but then lockdown hit so i couldn’t proceed with the short film :S Not stopping me though, i’ll work something out.

Mods find a way I suppose.

Aside from the scaling / stretching character model it’s neat to see things being done with the game.

EDIT: Aha so save-game manipulation more than game file modding as such, nifty.

Why does this seem… fun

I’ve never been into lego games. From what i’ve played of them, they’ve always been ariel(-ish) view co-op games. This seems different and rather engaging?

I liked the humor and personality the earlier games had but I haven’t picked up some of them in a while now waiting on sales and such instead while filling in the earlier missed games, Lego City Undercover as a bit of a spin-off from the usual movie adaptions into LEGO was really good what little progress I made and the later pseudo-open world ones were also quite neat.

Limited settings and some rough keyboard control but the games themselves were always fun so definitively recommended.

I believe all, or at least most, of the Lego games essentially parodied or had fun with the source materials in one way or another. It’s been part of their charm for like forever, and it’s why stuff like the movies are great as well:

Wonder what else could get the LEGO treatment, lots of work with both Marvel and Disney so I suppose there’s no lack of material…should look up whether it’s Marvel or D.C too at that.

Warner too and their properties as if the Disney stuff and super hero material wouldn’t be nearly endless.

LEGO Punisher? Nah no need when it’s enough to just step on one of the pieces doesn’t really matter it hurts regardless of how it’s placed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Makes sense to go for Star-Wars though with the revival / reboot / axing of older stuff as the franchise gets rebooted.

Microsoft have seemingly finalized the “DirectX 12 Ultimate” feature set with the addition of a new feature level to DirectX 12 – feature level 12_2.

Edit: And the official blog post from Microsoft:

Well this game caught my attention. Though based off reviews it might need a few game fixes lol.

Edit:
So I found this new network card. Its a newer model of the one I bought in 2018. Here is the kicker they are selling that old one for 149USD used product. But when I got it I only paid like 69USD.

This new model of the Wifi Card also has Bluetooth Capabilities and it seems to handle much higher speeds in 5Ghz. Not like I could ever reach it but damn.
5Ghz speed can utilize - 2402 Mbps

Here is the card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZV2CJL2

By the looks of it I can most likely connect my PS4 controller to it as well. Will see if the latency from controller is much worse or decent enough to use in games.

Football according to Japan, seen a few previews of it.

Now they just need to do Eye Shield 21 and cover Rugby as seen by Japanese media.

This is amusing…

Disco Elysium got a patch recently making it one of the first Unity Engine games I have seen shipping to customers with Flip Model enabled. It also does not like Special K v 0.11.0.45 for reasons I am having difficulty tracing (anti-debug stuff, which is weird for a game that ships on GOG).

So we have a game I would ordinarily praise for using Unity the right way, and Special K not working. The tables are reversed here, lol.

Hmm. My new mouse doesn’t have a lateral scroll wheel and I miss it :frowning:

Is that something only Microsoft does? It’s really useful, I don’t see why all mice don’t have a wheel that can be tilted left/right to scroll horizontally.

Logitech does it as well.

In fact, with the horizontal scroll + infinite vertical scrolling (I can’t help but wonder if Logitech has a patent on that design), it’s basically set in stone that I will always use a Logitech mouse.

I own like 3-4 units of their G900 or G903 models because I love 'em so much, and they’re great – both in wired and wireless mode:

Although what I tend to do is remove all DPI profiles stored onboard the mice, set the one profile remaining to a permanent 1600 DPI, and then turn of all lights and whatever on it to further the battery while on wireless, as well as 250 Hz polling rate.

1600 DPI on the mouse + 250 Hz polling rate + enhanced mouse precision in Windows (mouse acceleration) have been my go-to solution for cross-machine mice usage regardless of resolution, number of monitors, or anything.

And with basically all major games since at least a decade back disabling mouse acceleration as soon as the mouse is hooked up to a camera directly, the mouse acceleration in Windows or where a cursor is present isn’t an issue for aiming in games.

Hmm, guess I got the wrong Logitech mouse then :stuck_out_tongue: I picked up an ergonomic vertical mouse, figuring it would have the feature. I’ll probably return it and get a different Logitech model that has angle adjustment as a compromise – flat mice are bad
