trowgundam:
Do I need to do something special with FFXV in HDR with SpecialK? Withough SpecialK in HDR, its fine, non-HDR with SpecialK it is fine. But if I use SpecialK with HDR turned on, everything is way brighter than they possibly should be. You can really tell with the moon as it is basically a bright white circle, you can 't see any details what so ever. Another telling indicator is when you are starting up the red parts of the Square-Enix logo are red as they fade in, but becomes orange quickly, and as it fades goes back to red. I tried messing with options. This is without even having SpecialK’s HDR stuff turned on. Turning that one doesn’t really help. I tried all the tone mapping options, and the worse is by far the Native HDR, where the bright highlights just go black. I was able to get sorta normal with Passthrough and then setting my Peak and Paper White brightness both to 80nits. Some things are still overly bright and washing out details, but is much, much better.
Ctrl+click on the sliders and try 70 nits instead. That was what worked for me in the remastered Mass Effect games.
As for why this happens, it’s usually because SK sorta expects broken HDR.
I’ll try that. I sorta worked around it by just going in and setting the Hide HDR option in SpecialK, so that FFXV’s HDR didn’t kick in. But to be honest, I kind of preferred FFXV’s native HDR over what SpecialK does. I know that technically SpecialK’s HDR is probably “better” since there is a greater contrast, but some of the blacks seem slightly crushed. I can still see the details, if I look closely, but it is really hard to see from my normal distance from my monitor. It just looked better overall with FFXV’s native HDR. I’m sure I could dial it in with SpecialK, but I’ve never really understood how to do the HDR tuning with SpecialK. I normally just messed around with the sliders till I found something I thought looked decent.

FFXV’s HDR implementation is, if I remember it correctly, one of the better ones on PC, so that it would be superior to Special K’s retrofit doesn’t surprise me.

Support For
Deathloop™
Call of Duty® Vanguard Open Beta
AMD Smart Access Memory on Radeon™ RX 5000 Series Graphics
Added Vulkan® Support
VK_KHR_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory
This extension allows implementations to use the null constant initializer on shader workgroup memory variables. This in turn allows applications that run untrusted content to defeat memory-scraping attacks.
VK_KHR_shader_integer_dot_product
This extension adds support for the integer dot product SPIR-V instructions defined in SPV_KHR_integer_dot_product. The SPV_KHR_integer_dot_product extension allows dot product operations on integer vectors with optional accumulation. In addition to allowing dot product operations for all input vector types, it also allows integer dot product for 4-component vectors of 8-bit integers that are packed into 32-bit integers.
VK_EXT_shader_atomic_float2
This extension provides shaders with the capability to perform 16-bit floating-point atomic operations on buffer and workgroup memory. It additionally allows floating-point atomic minimum and maximum operations on buffer, workgroup, and image memory.
VK_EXT_load_store_op_none
This extension allows an application to specify the contents within the render area that will not modified or can be expected to be undefined after rendering.

Huh, I thought the GTA remaster would be released next year — not this one.
Yeah I assume Rockstar or the developer these were contracted to if that’s how it was done has been working on these up until QA testing and certification so the official reveal came up at the end of this development process.
Works pretty well I guess, just need some comparison images and a launch trailer the games are well known so extensive marketing isn’t required and instead it can seem like the game is almost ready immediately after being revealed.
