LEGO City Undercover in Proton won't launch with Special K installed

Hello

I’m trying to install Special K for LEGO City Undercover in Proton, to fix to frequent crashing. I’ve downloaded it from https://sk-data.special-k.info/SpecialK.7z, copied SpecialK64.dll to the game installation directory, and renamed it to dxgi.dll. However when doing that, the game completely refuses to start. Steam says briefly says game is running, but nothing is displayed and after then a few seconds Steam just says the game is no longer running. There are no logs, at least not in the install directory. I tried instaling vcrun2022 for the game using protontricks, but that made no difference. I also tried adding WINEDLLOVERRIDES=“dxgi=n,b” to the launch options, or naming it d3d11.dll, but that made no difference either. I’ve tried both Proton Experimental and Proton 9.0-4, and also tried a few old versions of Special K from the Discord, and got the same result.

Here’s steam-578330.log from when running with PROTON_LOG=1 (although that alters the behaviour; Steam never sees the game as exiting, it just sits there with nothing happening): ======================Proton: 1774341903 experimental-10.0-20260324SteamGame - Pastebin.com
