Horizon: Zero Dawn

Yes, it’s not going to do anything without that running

I’m assuming someone gave you instructions on installing this manually for a single game? That’s basically the difference between Local and Global injection, and that’s normal if you are using Local injection.

You can probably name ReShade’s DLL d3d12.dll if you are going to use a Local version of Special K. It’s much easier if you use Global.

Yeah, i tried global and didn’t work.

Changing Reshade dll to d3d12.dll worked, thanks.

ah okay, it works now. I went in game and pressed ctrl shift t and it made the achievement sound. Strangely, I am getting generally slightly worse performance with SK. Here are two screenshots. the first is without SK, and the second, with 59fps is with SK installed. I probably did something wrong. Also, I am basing my opinion on my own in game play testing, not by the results of the benchmarks.

The ini file still doesn’t get created? Wouldn’t it be possible for someone to upload their whole “My mods” folder so it works for people like us?

Look at your lows its higher. Its actually better framepacing in your screenshot . Though after a while I noticed this game starts becoming a stuttering mess. Not sure why though.

Just install Special K locally by copying SpecialK64.dll to the game folder and rename it to dxgi.dll. If done correctly you should have a dxgi.ini file be created on launch in the game folder as long as a “SpecialK.central” file does not exist in that same folder (it tells SK to store the config file under Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles[executable name]" instead).

I noticed this game when it runs Crash Handler exe in background it uses up like 12 to 25 % of my cpu processing power. That is pretty heavy. The moment I end tasked it, the game ran a little bit smoother. Or by a bit actually since its not stuttering insanely bad now. But still hitches.

Weird, you have higher CPU and GPU scores with SK’s limiter, but the overall score is lower?

I don’t get those screenshots. By every measure I can see, SK’s giving you better results. The 95th and 99th percentiles are much higher and the minimum framerate is 2 FPS higher.

You should probably keep VSYNC on for both tests though. SK’s framerate limiter only goes into drop-late-frame mode if VSYNC is on. Otherwise it goes into oldschool triple-buffering mode.

Yeah, I deleted that executable almost immediately :stuck_out_tongue:

It will poll the game executable the entire time you are playing, and then for an additional 30 seconds after you close the game. They went full stupid with data collection.

… perhaps I should have mentioned this at some point?

Kaldaien are you saying turn on vsync in game options with SK? And borderless mode too right?

Yes, either turn it on in-game, or set PresentationInterval=1 in SpecialK.ini. It’s set to -1 by default, which uses the game’s preferences.

Just came here to thank you. Managed to make it playable with decent graphics on my old potato (gtx970 4gb, i5-4570, 8gb ram). Frametime graph is flatlining in normal gameplay. Locked it on 45fps, which i get except when the weather is going crazy, then it goes down to 35. First game in years which makes me want to upgrade. Maybe when the PS5 is out. Had to pirate (for now) because I didn’t want to test out and possibly waste money on some unplayable game. Glad I could make SK work with my limited skills even on a pirated Steam version. Thank you.

Oh, and some questions: Should I enable Vsync ingame or force it over Nvidia center (which mode?) or use that presentationintveral=1 for best performance?

Vsync in nvidia control panel works best? or I use ingame one?

VSYNC is VSYNC wherever you enable it, it doesn’t matter.

All three of the methods you just discussed will do the same thing. The only one that is convenient to change is the in-game setting though.

It’s based off FPS. If you cap it the score will be lower. IF you unlock it. It will be much higher.

The CPU and GPU FPS are higher with SK’s limiter, even the average FPS - excluding for the overall FPS.

You are not getting it the avg 59 lock is what dictates the score. If that is higher then it will be higher score. I tested this between 30 fps 60, and unlocked. In his 2nd screenshot you will notice its locked at 59. Test this yourself.

For example for me 45 fps lock was at like 5K score or 6K. 60 fps was usually around 8K score. When unlocked I hit 10K+

I can’t lol, don’t own the game.

Seems like the vanilla version accurately displays its average FPS? The lower performing between CPU and GPU is the GPU, which means the system is GPU bound, and the GPU manages 61 here, and so the average FPS overall is 61 accordingly.

Meanwhile the SK version, GPU bound again but at 70 fps, but the overall frame rate is 59. That’s why i’m confused.
