Horizon: Zero Dawn

Anything i can do to reduce stutter during cutscenes and the hud updating? Its somewhat better with the mod, but sometimes its really distracting

Just trying to get some clarification on the updated .dll and .ini’s as things progress;

Are users desiring Fullscreen AND Borderless functionality intended to use the same(latest?) .dll and .ini values regardless of the selected display mode?
i.e. SwapchainWait = 10 vs =66?

Should users be generating a new .ini (and changing the recommended values) when updating from previous .dll versions?

Thank you!

It seems the latest version of Special K causes crashes after a few minutes of playing.

Different areas every time.

I am trying again with the update to SKIF ,the specialk64.dll, and the new changed to the ini but I cannot hear the ding sound with CTRL SHIFT T anymore. Not sure what to do tbh

check framerate

this game does so many weird things…sometimes launches in 7.1 surround instead of stereo (horrible on a stereo headset). Had the game volume lower by almost 30% than the system in volume mixer. I thought Im going deaf lmfao. Took 2 days to figure that one out.

Minimap and small grass updates at 30fps. Looks great when the game is running around 90:D the list goes on and on.

With the constant crashing and game functions not working, save games randomly getting corrupted and manual save just nukes the game. Im honestly baffled how this is even acceptable. Worse than an early access title. On the subreddit everyone is licking Guerillas a** that, they are trying to fix the problem. The problem is this was a FULL priced game with high expectations and it came out in an unusable state. Sorry im pissed, because i purposefully avoid early access titles. Giving hard earned money for a pile of lazy ass garbage is infuriating especially during current events.

/rant off

sorry reddit pissed me off

For a reason I just CAN’T get it to work, everytime I use Special K the game simply won’t lauch, I did change the .ini as you said, and no matter if the game is running in borderless of fullscreen, the game just don’t launch

I saw someone reported audio cracking issue on HZD Steam forum. And I can confirm that this had happened to me as well. However, for me, cracking was short, infrequent, and only happened when I ran the game in fullscreen mode. So, pretty much non-issue since, when using Special K, this game should be run in borderless anyway. Though, I have not tested whether newer Special K versions still have this audio cracking issue. I ran into this issue last week when I still used Special K Steam release version and ran game in fullscreen.

Also, Kal mentioned number of CPU cores. And I think that might be the case. My CPU does not even have enough cores for the game itself (6-cores 6-threads CPU, i5-9600K). From Durante’s review, any CPU below 8-threads will have significant stutters with this game (pic).

With games can utilize more and more cores, I wonder how long this 6-cores CPU can last… :weary:

I have a 7700k [1080ti] which has 4 physical cores / 8 threads

I have zero stutters @ 1080p max settings

The problem isn’t hardware so much, its more expectations of the average person with their own parts and game settings, how they run the game, their operating system configuration and various other variables. It all culminates into a mess at game launches. The port is a mess sure, but it has very little to do with “cpu cores”.

Could we see a short video capture with the frame time graph on a 100% flat line

“We” who? you and who else?

Anyway, there you go. 1440p maxed out at 62fps.
The “visual” stuttering was from YT encoding, not in the real gameplay.

The RTSS graph isn’t detailed enough to actually showcase Special K’s awesome frame variance…

If Special K’s own widget could’ve been displayed in D3D12 you’d see it basically report less than 1ms frame variance on some systems. Now that is a good frame rate limiter.

Please reply!
How I can use special k frame limiter in other games? Like the division 2, metro exodus etc?
It’s that simple to just copy specialk.dll into the game folder and then configure the ini file?

I know but AFAIK in DX12 the only working frametime/rate graph is RTSS or…Windows gamebar :joy:

Yep. Special K is the only limiter that can achieve perfect target FPS in all FPS percentiles. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
The worst frame variance I got during 3 mins HZD benchmark was 0.3 ms, like, 33.6 ms from 33.3 target.

Essentially, yes, however various limitations will apply based on the game and whatnot.

For example, Metro Exodus is much the same as Horizon Zero Dawn in that if you’re using Dx12 Special K won’t be able to render within the game, so only the frame rate limiter will be available.

For The Division 2, you almost certainly won’t be able to use Special K or Ubisoft might take issues with Special K and ban you for the use of it.

Anti-cheat protections and such can never be guaranteed to work entirely with Special K as the developers might take action against it that we have no control over.

Does SK work with ANY game then?
Can I just inject and check if it works?
Example Jedi Fallen Order.

Yes.

Jedi: Fallen Order is a DirectX 11 game so just naming SpecialK64.dll to dxgi.dll and put it in the folder of the game executable (Star Wars Jedi - Fallen Order\SwGame\Binaries\Win64) should be enough.

As it is an Unreal Engine 4 game you might have to disable the texture cache (easily done through the in-game UI that’s opened by using Ctrl+Shift+Backspace) of Special K though as it might not be compatible.

Jesus, since I arrived to Meridian in Horizon, the game is crashing constantly on me, regardless if I use Special K or not.

Can barely even play some 10-15 minutes now without it crashing.

No problem here. 3800X/2080S/32GB/Win10 2004 WITHOUT Hardware gpu scheduling activated. 21h and no crash at all. 451.67(no hotfix).
