Horizon: Zero Dawn

Well It seems I need to get back to trying to use HDR mode in HZD LOL. Though I know for fact that AMD issues with HDR might still be present. lol.

Edit:
Well Dang looks a lot better than it did before. Interesting. They seemed to fix some of the Issues I was having with HDR not working properly.

Can I get a 30fps cap config? I keep having weird hiccups when I cap it to 30fps on the .ini

Here’s a pre-packaged version of Special K you can just drop directly into your game directory:

HorizonZeroDawn-30FPS.7z (7.6 MB)

Ctrl+Shift+1 = Low-Latency Framerate Limiting
Ctrl+Shift+2 = Smooth Framerate Limiting

Default settings = Low-Latency.

I’m currently having the problem where i cannot use fullscreen, after editing the ini, setting borderless to false and fullscreen to true OR false, fullscreen setting ingame results in a window. I’m probably just missing something in the ini but i haven’t had to do this manually before, used to the GUI xD

The fullscreen setting in the INI file is meaningless if borderless is turned off. It’s an additional step beyond removing window borders – stretch the window to fill the entire desktop.

You cannot make a window with borders fullscreen, at best you could maximize it and you don’t need my help to click the maximize button

—Can you be a bit more specific, BTW? There are so many configurations in this thread I don’t know whether you’re using the 1) waitable swapchain settings, 2) fullscreen exclusive or 3)

^^^ I suggest 3), just set TargetFPS to your refresh rate and you’re basically done. I did all the hard work for you.

Thank you for those settings I will be testing this out :slight_smile:I appreciate this!!!

Really sorry to waste your time, like I said i’m probably being dumb lmao.
I used the config I found on pcgw, i’ve had no problems with fps and it’s fixed literally all of my stuttering issues on 3440x1440, but the only problem I can’t seem to work around is USING exclusive fullscreen at the same time as having SpecialK injected. I’d upload my ini but i’m a new user x.x.
But I got it from: here
Simply changed target fps to 120 and borderless to false, tried force fullscreen to no avail, like I said i’m probably missing something dumb simple and I look silly i’m sure. It’s running pretty well in borderless with this ini so it’s not the end of the world, i’m just partial to fullscreen as personally i’ve had better experiences with it, and this game specifically as mentioned seems to benefit from it a lot

But thank you very much, I will definitely try that config

Edit: yeah okay wow i was literally making that harder on myself goddamn, thank you so much xD

I don’t know why but if I use the rtss limiter or the SpecialK limiter (set to 70) in this game with Gsync at 144hz (gsync compatible - freesync) i don’t get always a 100% smooth presentation while panning the camera, even if the frame pacing graph is flat. All that while using the borderless config of the 1st post.
Instead, if I use the in game fps limiter the camera panning is alwasy smooth.

IF i disable gsync and set the refresh rate to 70hz, then the SpecialK limiter is also smooth.
So, I must think it is some sort of problems between gsync-compatible and external frame limiters in this game.

What input device are you using? G-Sync has performance issues with mice if their polling rate is too high. You get profound stuttering w/ G-Sync if you poll the mouse at >= 500 Hz in many graphics engines.

I’m using a dualshock 4. Anyway I’m really curious about what are you saying about the polling rate. I’ve always used my mouse at 1000hz with g-sync, and if i lower it to 125hz the camera in games is much less smooth. On another forum specialized on g-sync it’s also recommended to use high polling rate for high refresh rate monitors for better smoothness and less microstuttering

The problem has to do with games that use the hardware cursor. If that is drawn in G-Sync, and you move the mouse rapidly, your performance is going to go to hell in a handbasket.

If you can make sure the game never draws a mouse cursor, then it’s safe to use high polling rate with G-Sync. Otherwise, it’s going to cause this:

I feel sorry for the folks in that thread, I know precisely what their problem is.

It’s why 250 Hz is such a good middleground IMHO. You still cut the latency in half but without any of the weird issues that 500-1000 Hz polling rate can cause.

I haven’t been around since before 1.03 dropped. Is there any specific changes to be made to the INI since Guerilla’s updates? I tried skimming through past posts but didn’t see anything. Ty in advance!

Yes

Yes there has been update. This one is latest SK. And has some interesting features to be used.

I got Specialk to work with PresentationInterval=2 “Half refresh rate”. Just use borderless settings posted here, HOWEVER you need to disable K’s FPS limiter. For those who want to play 30 fps, or half ur monitor refresh hate for smoother gameplay…

Just tried half refresh rate, it does not really work for me though. FPS is all over the place with half refresh rate. Special K’s limiter is still the most stable.

Half Refresh Rate

Special K's Limiter

You should go over to the “Synchronization” tab in CapFrameX and do those tests again

I am fairly certain that is Special K’s low input-latency mode from the frame time variation. There should be nothing beneficial to half-refresh. I should already be getting you significantly lower input latency and no stutter :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there an update local config file for Gsync monitor users, target fps is 117 and reso is 3440x1440

EDIT: Is there also a way I can make this play nice and display stats from RTSS ?
